Sedation

What is Sedation?

Treatment can be carried out under sedation at the Synergy Dental Clinic for nervous patients. Patients feel very relaxed and enter a sleep-like state. Patients often don’t remember any of the procedure.

What does it cost?

Each sedation session costs £120. A session is 30 mins in duration. Most simple treatments require only session. For more longer and advanced treatments, 2 sessions may be required. Your dentist will advise you during your initial consultation.

What does it involve?

There is 2 different procedures available:

  • Inhalation sedation – Nitrous Oxide (otherwise known as laughing gas) is inhaled, making the patient feel calm and relaxed.
  • IV sedation – A sedative agent is introduced to the body and the patient enters a very deep relaxation. Most patients don’t remember the procedure at all.

Is it like General Anaethetic (GA)?

No. General Anaesthesia is when a complete loss of consciousness is achieved for long periods of time. Sedation is thought to be half way between general anaesthesia and local anaesthesia. It works very effectively in nervous patients.

Can my children have sedation?

Inhalation sedation is the only form of sedation available for nervous children. However, very nervous children can usually be referred to the hospital for treatment under general anaesthetic. There is a waiting list for this and adults generally do not qualify for GA.

Is there a waiting list for sedation?

Usually the dentist will be able to fit you in within 2 weeks.

How much does it cost?

Because sedation is not available on the NHS, there is a £120 fee for IV sedation. Sedation by inhalation costs £60.
We strongly recommend that nervous patients join our sedation plan for £18 month.
See the treatment costs section for further details.
