Dental Implants – what to expect : 5 Questions with Synergy Dental Pt.1

What are dental implants?

A dental implant is a prosthesis that is usually fashioned from Titanium metal in order to replace a space of where a tooth is missing. The metal implant stimulates bone molecules and is placed into the bone of your jaw to ensure it is extremely secure. They are a great choice for individuals seeking to recreate the natural tooth anatomy in a region that has no tooth present.

How much do they cost?

This is highly dependent on the type of procedure you select, including the number of teeth you wish to replace.

It is important to note that implant placement is a section of dentistry that must be formed by highly skilled clinicians. Here at Synergy Dental our prices for implant treatment can be found here on our site. But treatment ranges from £1350 (+£350) to £28,000 depending on complexity.

What are the alternatives?

This can only be decided on a case by case basis. However, in replacing a gap there are a variety of treatment options to consider that do not need implants. These include – bridges, complete dentures and partial dentures.

It is important to note that the best course of treatment can only be decided after an initial consultation is made including relevant examinations. To stress the importance of this we offer a free initial consultation if you are considering implants to allow you to gain the best insight in the treatment that most suits you.

How long does it take?

Once the initial consultation is completed and consent is verified we can start on your treatment. This usually involves some type of dental surgery where extractions are needed and placement of the implant in stages. You can have your implant prepared in 1 day and temporary teeth fitted also. Following a 3 month healing time, the permanent new teeth can be finally fitted.

This is the bulk of the treatment done – however, it is extremely important to engage in after-care to maintain your implants for the long term. This included regular 3 month check-ups to monitor dental hygiene regarding cleaning, x-rays and maintenance.

Implants are a lifelong commitment – the procedure isn’t over once you leave the chair!

How risky is the procedure?

Implants are a very safe and low risk procedure. They are a fantastic long-term solution to missing teeth and have an average success rate of around 95% (1). The treatment does involve a few stages that require high precision and accuracy but due to the high caliber of our dentists you are in safe hands to deliver a high standard of treatment.
