What Are Dental Implants?
Dental implants are an advanced form of dental prosthesis – in other words, they’re made to replace missing teeth! They’re different from dentures because they’re usually fixed.
During dental implant treatment, your dentist will insert a hollow titanium “screw” called an implant into your jawbone. This screw acts like your natural tooth root and holds a “post” (called an abutment) in place for your new teeth to be attached.
They can replace one tooth, a few missing teeth together or even a whole jaw of teeth – this is called full-arch implant treatment.
Who Are Dental Implants For?
Dental implants are for anyone who struggles due to missing teeth. Missing teeth can make it harder for you to speak and chew, but they can also make you feel self-conscious about your smile. At Synergy, we’ve seen hundreds of patients who have lost confidence due to missing teeth and have suffered damage to their mental health as a result.
Some people may choose to have dental implants because they find a denture uncomfortable or are unable to wear a denture due to damage to their mouth. Other people choose dental implants because they have a more natural appearance compared to a denture.
Almost everyone who has missing teeth can benefit from dental implants. It’s very rare that a patient is ineligible for dental implants. In some cases, where the patient’s jawbone has been severely damaged, there is nothing for the implant to hold on to, meaning we will have to find an alternate solution to help replace your missing teeth.
We also do not provide dental implants to under 18s as their jawbone may still be developing and the implant will shift with the bone growth, causing damage. We will always wait until a patient is over 18 if they need dental implants.
In any situation where we cannot help you using dental implants, we will find another way to help you get your smile confidence back!
What Are The Different Types Of Dental Implants?
There are many different brands of dental implants, and just like anything else, different brands have different uses and different levels of quality.
At Synergy, we supply two brands: Straumann and Osteem. Osteem is a Korean brand. As the 5th best brand in the world they are more budget-friendly through still extremely high quality.
Straumann are a Swiss brand and are the highest rated dental implants in the world due to their superior levels of testing. Straumann are pioneers in the field and are dedicated to continual improvement through new research into dental implantology.
We primarily use Straumann implants. Because we use Straumann so often, they give us a discount which we pass on to our patients, meaning we can offer top implants at bottom prices! We’ve even won awards from Straumann recognising us as the highest supplier of implants in the North West!
What Are The Steps Of Dental Implant Treatment?
Dental implant treatment generally consists of a few simple steps. First, we do a thorough exam of your mouth and your oral health to check you’re suitable for implants. When you’re happy with your treatment options, we plan out your treatment using a series of scans to get the perfect placement of your implants.
Next, we perform your implant surgery in a sterile environment, and fit your temporary teeth so you can leave with a smile the same day!
Whilst your implants are fusing with your jawbone, we design your final teeth with you.
Finally, we fit your permanent smile!
Do Dental Implants Hurt?
Dental implant surgery may sound scary, but it usually doesn’t hurt! We use a local anaesthetic to make the area feel numb. Most people don’t feel anything during surgery, but if you’re worried about pain levels, we can provide IV sedation.
How Much Do Dental Implants Cost In The UK?
Dental implants cost between £1000 for a single implant to £30,000 per jaw for a full arch of implants. The price of implants depends on the number of implants needed and the level of work that must be done. Other factors like a bone graft and sedation may drive the price up.
At Synergy, we offer package deals on multiple implants and even have 0% finance options to make implant treatment more affordable.
Can I Get Dental Implants On The NHS?
Dental implants are generally considered a cosmetic procedure, so the NHS does not usually cover them, though they may make an exception in cases where the patient cannot wear a denture due to discomfort or damage to the mouth caused by trauma or medical procedures such as removal of oral cancer.
For most people, the only option to get dental implants is to go private.
Here at Synergy, we have multiple options on dental implants to suit everyone’s needs and budget, including 0% finance options to let you spread the cost.
