Dr. Meenal Balaji

Dr. Meenal Balaji is our Preston clinic Direct Access Dental Therapist. She has a BDS from SRM Institute of Science and Technology in India. When her husband decided to come to the UK to study his master’s degree in 2016, Meenal decided to move halfway across the world for love!

As a dental therapist, Meenal practices routine general dental work, and is an accomplished academic. She has Topper Awards in Biochemistry and Public health Dentistry, and she has been featured in A Journal of Dentistry, Volume 4, Issue 1 for her paper comparing the out-of-pocket costs for dentists between private and public sector dentistry.

Dr. Balaji uses our “tell, show, do” technique to help nervous patients. This is a practice we usually use for teaching dentists, but Meenal has adjusted this to work for her so she can use it to help anxious patients to understand the treatment they’re about to have.

After a particularly busy day at work, Meenal likes to relax by spending time with her family, and passing off the cooking to a local takeaway. On weekends, she likes to shop and buy new art supplies for her cross-stitching, and keeps active playing badminton.

Meenal believes in a holistic lifestyle of helping others. When she lived in her home country of India, she spent time providing dental relief in rural areas. She would like to retire to the countryside one day and live far away from the pollution of the city.
