This award will recognise the efforts of a school or pupil/s involved in developing environmental awareness and sustainable development. Whether it be the curriculum and learning or a part of the life of the school and its estate, we want encourage and inspire future innovation in this area. The category welcomes nominations for young people, staff and specific projects that show commitment and development to a sustainable future.

Blackpool and The Fylde College is committed to developing environmental awareness and sustainable development in education and the wider community we serve. Embedding sustainable development is a core focus which involves ensuring we operate in away that’s both supportive and protective of the environment whilst considering the various economic and social impacts.

In terms of education and stakeholder engagement we are committed to ensuring that our students are given the skills and knowledge to safeguard both future development and employment in the jobs of the future that will drive the environmental and sustainable development industries.

The College’s Sustainability Manager, Pam Reynolds says: “Sustainability in the curriculum gives students knowledge and awareness of the issues relating to sustainability and an understanding of the needs of future generations. Whether this is recycling, better use of resources or even inventing new products for the future, it is important to see the bigger picture and the impacts each individual has on the planet. We want to encourage this ethos in Schools across the region.”

By investing in anew Advanced Technology Centre that will train the next generation of highly skilled workers in advanced engineering and manufacturing and developing degree programes with employers such as BSc (Hons) Construction Management and Sustainable Practice and BSc (Hons) Marine Biology and Coastal Zone Management, B&FC is providing opportunities for the next generation.

Newly Qualified Teacher

This award recognizes Newly Qualified Teachers who are bringing learning to life by engaging and motivating children to fulfil their potential.

As a supporting local Appropriate Body for moderating NQT assessments on behalf of the National College for Teaching and Leadership (NCTL), we value the quality of work done in our schools by new teachers to the profession. Significant investment in time, resources, knowledge and skills by partners ensure their experience is the best it can be. Recognition is usually by personal letter and national certification, but this award helps us all celebrate those who have made a special impact on the lives of young people in their care. We are looking for those NQTs who have gone beyond satisfying the teacher’s standards for induction and shown outstanding teaching skills combined with a wider contribution to school life.

To submit for the award please capture your NQTs contribution for the academic year 2013-14 in those areas that made a difference and the impact that it had. Supporting evidence can also be added in the form of video or pictures.
