Frequently Asked Questions About Veneers

It’s no surprise that countless celebrities, including the likes of Emma Roberts and Miley Cyrus, seem to be sporting a pearly-white aesthetic from dental veneers, and it has many people wondering – what makes dental veneers such a staple cosmetic procedure? We’ll go over a few commonly asked questions that dentists get about veneers, and maybe you might consider them for yourself.

What are they?

Veneers are custom-moulded caps made from porcelain which are bonded onto the front surface of each tooth. It is generally considered one of the more straight-forward cosmetic treatments available to patients. The procedure encompasses simplicity with a high-quality, long-lasting end result.

Who might benefit?

What makes veneers so special is that they are suitable for a wide range of aesthetic issues. For example, veneers have the potential to offer long-lasting to problems like misshapen teeth, tooth chips, and discolouration. Veneers can also be used for some orthodontic treatments.

What materials are used?

Materials may be recommended by your dentist, but they will also change the cost of the treatment. The common materials that are used can be either porcelain or composite. Porcelain has the toughest durability and resistance to staining, but they will likely cost more to have fitted.

How is the procedure done?

The treatment will usually occur in multiple stages. An initial appointment will be required – which will involve impressions and, possibly, x-rays being taken. This will be followed by preparing the tooth for the treatment by refining the tooth enamel to fit the crown. The final appointment will have the finished crowns bonded to the enamel.

How long will they last?

Veneers can last anywhere from 6-10 years once fitted, but this will depend on how they are cared for as well as which materials are being used. Fortunately, veneers don’t usually require special interim appointments. They only require regular brushing as you would with natural teeth.

How much do they cost?

The price will vary based on where you are having them done, what materials are used, and how many you are having fitted. The base price at Synergy is £270.00 per veneer*.

Will it hurt?

No. Veneer treatments are very rarely painful, as local anaesthetic will be used to numb the areas around where the veneers are being fitted. As the enamel of the natural tooth is being refined, you may feel tension or force but this is completely normal. Expect some soreness around the gums after the treatment, but over-the-counter pain relief will treat this.
