Dr. Ali Altaf

Dr. Ali Altaf is one of our most accomplished Synergy Dentists. When he’s not busy being a superstar appearing on the BBC or on ITV news, you’ll find him hard at work at our Preston Clinic where he is our Head Dentist.

Ali was born in Saudi Arabia and moved to the UK in 2013 after graduating. He studied his BDS at Trinity College Dublin – which is why you might hear a slight Irish accent when you speak to him! His gentle voice and soft tone help to soothe any nervous patients.

Since finishing university, Dr. Ali hasn’t stopped learning. He’s earned post-graduate diplomas in various areas and is currently studying for his MSc in Implantology. He has over 10 years of experience in aesthetic dentistry and full-mouth rehabilitation, and is so excellent that he has become one of our SynTrain Academy lecturers, training the next generation of brilliant dentists.

There’s almost nothing that Ali doesn’t know about dentistry, so no matter what your concern is, Dr. Altaf can help. He’s even won Dentist of the Year and Practice of the Year at the Lancashire Health Hero Awards, as well as winning our Best Dentist at Synergy and our best Developed Dentist at Synergy titles!

Ali’s dedication to dentistry doesn’t stop at the clinic doors. He is a trustee with the Refugee Crisis Foundation, a volunteer based non-profit organisation dedicated to easing the suffering of refugees globally. Their objectives are not only to provide basic needs, but also education and medical aid.

They began in 2015, providing emergency dental care from a mobile dental clinic in the “Jungle” refugee camp in Callis. Since then, their projects have expanded to include the Rohingya Appeal, providing aid for Rohingya Muslims in Bangladesh who have been forced to flee their homes due to violence and persecution.

The RCF Healthy Smiles Initiative aims to take a proactive approach to dentistry, focusing on education. Many dental problems found in refugee camps are treatable, but develop into severe conditions due to the lack of care available. Rather than waiting for someone’s oral health to deteriorate, Healthy Smiles Initiative aims to prevent these problems before it reaches the need for critical intervention.

As a member of the board of trustees, Dr. Altaf has been a key member of developing these initiatives and raising awareness of them here in the UK through his appearances on national news. You can learn more about Ali’s work and the RCF here

When he’s not at work, teaching, or supporting the RCF, you can find Ali playing badminton or gaming on his PC. Ali is a certified tech-geek, and dreams of living in the most technologically advanced house possible – though having an automated house does sound great… imagine having your coffee make itself as soon as you wake up!
