What are Veneers?

Veneers are a cosmetic treatment made from a thin layer of porcelain designed to fit over the front surface of a tooth to mask the imperfections that could be making you feel self-conscious. They’re an ideal solution to chipped teeth or discolouration. Another alternative may be our Nano-Hybrid composite bonding (LINK). Your dentist will advise on what treatment is best for your needs.

Veneers are often used to:

Improve the colour, shape and position of teeth.
• Cover or rebuild a tooth chip.
• Close gaps in between front teeth.
• Bring a tooth in line with others.
• Cover discoloration and staining.

The treatment process

The treatment process for getting veneers is usually quite simple and straightforward. It rarely takes more than two appointments to complete.

Preparation may be required before the fitting of the veneers. If so, the dentist will need to establish how much enamel needs to be shaven off each tooth. Our Synergy dentists use a modified preparation technique including high tech digital planning, to ensure that no excess enamel is removed from the surface of the tooth, minimising damage. We will do this for every tooth that your veneers will cover. Typically between 0.3mm to 1mm of tooth is prepared.
The surface and edges of your teeth will be refined using composite finishing burs. This will allow for a smoother finish and will avoid leaving ledges or sharp areas, which could cause an inaccurate scan of your teeth. Final impressions will then be taken and sent off to the Synergy Dental lab for construction.

A temporary set of veneers are fitted onto your teeth which will resemble the final shape and size of the new veneers. At this stage, you are able to visually view the veneers and also recommend any changes before we start manufacturing your final veneers.
Fitting your Dental Veneers is the final stage of your treatment. We will fit your veneers using a composite bonding technique. The tooth surface will be etched with phosphoric acid for 30 seconds. The bonding agent will then be applied to the tooth surface along with NXS 3 cement being placed into the filling surface of the veneer. The veneers will then be applied to the prepared area and spot cured. Finally, excess cement will be removed.

Veneer material options

Veneers can be made from a variety of materials to suit the patient. Porcelain is the material traditionally used for veneers and is the most stain resistant as well as the most natural finish. On the other hand, composite materials don’t provide a finish as natural as that of porcelain, but can be completed in 1 treatment session.

No Prep Veneers

No Prep Veneers are porcelain veneers which are engineered to fit over your tooth surface without the need of any preparations. We use ultra-thin compressed porcelain for these veneers. Sometimes known as Emax veneers.
