It’s always desirable to have a bright, white smile that can rival that of an A-list celebrity, which is why a lot of people are looking into home teeth whitening kits which are cheaper.  However, some of these teeth whitening DIY-kits may not actually contain enough whitening product in them in order to be effective.  Along with this, the provided mouth guards are generally a “one size fits all” – this could potentially mean that the bleaching gel could leak onto the gums or even into the mouth.  This could lead to blistering and cause sensitivity or even damage the tooth enamel if done incorrectly.

Further risks could be had if your teeth whitening is performed by someone with no dental qualifications, which a risk to your health and is also illegal.  You should always go to a qualified and trained dental professional and registered on the General Dental Council.  Not only is this a much safer alternative, you would leave with a more effective treatment.

Make sure to ask your dentist plenty of questions such as:

  • The range of teeth whitening treatments on offer
  • What results you can expect
  • How long is the treatment guaranteed
  • What risks are involved
