Natural Shaped Teeth Can Be Achieved With CrownsSynergy Dental Clinic
Crowns, also known as caps, are a great way to artificially give your teeth the shape of natural teeth.
They’re made from a range of materials like porcelain, ceramic, glass and gold. But the most popular option is crowns made from porcelain bonded to metal – due to its durability and strength.
They’re a particularly suitable replacement for broken teeth or teeth that have become weak from decay or large fillings. They can even be used to improve the appearance of teeth that have become discoloured.
So, if you’re not happy with the way your teeth look and want to have a natural looking smile then it’s worth speaking with your dentist about the available options in order to enhance them.
The process of getting a crown fitted is quite straightforward and usually takes place over two appointments. The first appointment will be when the dentist prepares your tooth by removing a layer from the outer surface of your tooth, roughly the same thickness as the crown.
You’ll get a temporary crown put in place so you can use the tooth while your permanent crown is made. During the second visit your dentist will fit the crown permanently, and once you’re happy with it, your dentist will fit the tooth with a special cement to hold it in place.
What happens after that then?
When the crown is first put in it will be very noticeable but you should get used to it. This is normal as the crown will be a slightly different shape than your original tooth. Once you’ve gotten used to it, you may get called back in for a check-up after a few weeks.
Once you’ve had the crown put in, it’s essential for you to look after it the same way you’d look after your normal teeth. Although the crown won’t decay, there could be some decay on the edge where the crown meets the tooth. Ensure you follow the correct brushing practices and brush at least twice a day using a fluoride toothpaste – before you go to bed at night and at any other time during the day.
If looked after properly, your crown should last for several years. Therefore it’s essential that you follow the advice of your dentist. Be sure to use floss, in order to stay on top of the plaque that builds up between the teeth and to get rid of any food particles that may get stuck, too.
