Am I Too Old for Invisible Braces?

Many people who have ongoing issues with crooked teeth usually were given the opportunity to have braces when they were younger. They now regret not taking this chance and feel like they’re too old to have orthodontic treatment. Does this sound like you? You could be a perfect candidate for invisible braces.

There are people who have missed such an opportunity and have been left with teeth that they are not happy about. The most common method of teeth straightening that usually first comes to mind is a traditional fixed metal brace. Sometimes called ‘train tracks’, these braces have brackets and bands that are temporarily stuck to the teeth and held together by a flexible wire.

However, for many adults, the idea of traditional metal braces is embarrassing. They may look unsightly in front of friends or colleagues, and affect how you eat certain foods.

What are my options?

There is an option that is both more appealing and practical in the form of invisible braces. In many cases, this can be easier, quicker and more affordable.

Invisible braces consist of clear plastic aligners – which are custom-made moulds designed to fit snugly over your teeth. As you switch your aligners out, your teeth will gradually straighten.

You will generally wear a set of aligners for two weeks at a time. When the two weeks is up, they will be replaced with a new set that has been modified to direct your teeth to the next step. In order to see the best results, you should wear the aligners for 22 hours a day. You must remove them during meal times and also when you brush – to ensure you can clean in between your teeth.

Because of the clear plastic, they are virtually invisible; meaning you can straighten your teeth discreetly.
