Bad Breath

How can I know that I suffer from bad breath?

Lick the inside of your wrist and smell. If it smells bad, you are suffering from bad breath. Or you can ask an honest friend.

What causes bad breath?

  • Persistent bad breath can be caused by smelly gases released by bacteria that coat your teeth and gums
  • Food trappings in between teeth which have been stuck for a while will cause bad breath
  • Strong food such as garlic, coffee and onions
  • Medical conditions such as dry mouth syndrome can cause bad breath due to the build up bacteria. Diabetes or liver/ kidney problems may also cause bad breath
  • Infections in the throat, nose or lungs, can also cause bad breath
  • Smoking

How do I stop bad breath?

Ask your dentist for advice. A oral hygiene regime may be produced to keep your mouth fresh and clean.

What Can I do at home?

Make sure you follow all our advice on toothbrushing, flossing and mouthwash. Give up smoking. Avoid strong flavours. Brushing your tongue and gums will also help.
